Flutes

When you are choosing a box for your project, don't forget the importance of choosing the right flute, too. They do differ and, like boxes, each offers specific advantages. FLUTE is merely the inverted "S" formation that comprises the board's corrugation.
This is a cross-section profile of the basic types of flutes.

  • B-Flute
    • Good puncture resistance
    • Takes up less warehouse space
    • Uses include- Inserts and Displays

  • C-Flute
    • Good stacking strength
    • Crush resistant
    • Common material
    • Uses include glass, furniture and dairy

  • E-Flute
    • Light weight
    • Strong alternative to paper board
    • Excellent printing surface
    • Great for custom die cut boxes
    • Uses include displays & point of purchase boxes

Board Material

Fibreboards are built from a combination of flutes, each one has individual strengths and advantages. Our standard material is 32 Ect kraft (brown) single wall, which is the most widely used for shipping cartons. We can also make your boxes from color corrugated cardboard to provide a more custom, vibrant look. Board color alternatives include; white, black, blue, red, and green.
There are two basic types: Single wall and Double wall.

  • Single-Wall
    • A popular choice because of its wide range of strengths
    • Available in strengths 23 Ect - 71 Ect

  • Double-Wall
    • Made up of B and C flute
    • Available in strengths 42 Ect - 71 Ect
    • Great for stacking heavy items

ECT

Edge Crush Test or ECT is the edgewise compressive strength, parallel to the flutes of a short column of corrugated fibreboard.  Test results are reported as the pound-force per inch required to cause compressive failure. ECT correlates directly to box compression strength. For example, a box with a ECT of 32 lbs. per sq. inch that the board standing on edge, can handle a force of 32 lbs per square inch before crushing.
